Promise of payment is not enough

Diario Libre, The populations of the Dominican Republic continue to s uffer through long blackouts in spite of the announcement by the executive vice-president of the Dominican Corporation of State Electric Enterprises (CDEEE), Radhames Segura, that said that a US$46 million payment was going to be made this week. Unfortunately, the debt with the generating companies has reached US$373 million.

Last Friday, the number of generators out of service was 10, taking 968 megawatts from the system, but on Sunday the number went to 11, and taking 689 megawatts off line. Sunday's numbers were less than Friday's because Itabo I and II went back on-line and there were 115 megawatts produced by the hydroelectric stations, which bettered the total generation but the blackouts continued.
